Tall hardback, approx 11.5 x 8 inches. In full speckled calf leather binding, gilt lettering to light brown leather spine label, with raised banding and gilt decorations to spine. Red speckled page edges, plain endpapers. In very good condition. Some wear to cover, rubbing to extremities, top board corners chipped, corners of ends of spines chipped, som scratches and surface chips to rear board. Crack to front hinge with glue repair to front endpaper. Inscription to front endpaper “Robert Cooke, 1951” (Athelhampton House, Dorset.) Some minor rubbing to edges of title page with small nick to bottom edge. Some minor darkening to pages, a couple of minor spots to margins of engraving, else clean. A couple of minor light foxing spots to pages else overall inside pages very clean and tight throughout. Else a very clean and tight scarce early copy. 4pp Dedication, + 636pp Main Text, + 15pp Index. Illustrated with a full-page steel-engraved portrait, and two decorative letter-pieces.
